QCU-CE organizes IErgo – Convention ‘23

Third Year Industrial Engineering Students of the College of Engineering (CE) successfully organized the CE-Department of Industrial Engineering’s first-ever IErgo – Convention ’23 held on December 1, 2023, at the QCU San Bartolome Campus.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony at the QCU Triangle was witnessed by District 5 Councilor Ram Medalla; Dr. Theresita V. Atienza, University President; Dr. Bradford Martinez, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Deans of the different colleges, and CE faculty members led by Dr. Ryan F. Arago.

Dr. Atienza and Coun. Medalla were very enthusiastic about the project, which involved providing business carts to people in need. In her opening remarks, Dr. Atienza emphasized the value of Ergonomics and how it helps its beneficiaries. Coun. Medalla also reassured the audience that his office will continuously provide the necessary support needed by the beneficiaries.

A short program followed at the QCU Auditorium, which featured brief talks from Dr. Jannet M. Anit, Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Studies from the San Sebastian College – Recoletos de Cavite, and Dr. Ezekiel Bernardo, Lecturer at the College of Engineering, De La Salle University – Manila. The guest speakers discussed the importance of Ergonomics in terms of productivity and efficiency. In addition, they presented some applications and technologies that can be used to evaluate risk factors and musculoskeletal disorders as well other valuable insights in the field of Ergonomics.

The official turnover of the carts was held at the QCU Triangle in the afternoon, with 18 beneficiaries selected in coordination with the QCU Extension Management Office.

A competition was also organized to determine the best ergonomic carts with Dr. Anit, Dr. Bernardo, Engr. Rowel Alarcon (Industrial Engineering Department), and Engr. Eldrick Fonollera (Industrial Engineering Department) serving as judges. Cart 11 from BSIE-3G headed by Ms. Maria Luisa Mones was the 1st place. The second place was received by Cart 2 from BSIE-3H headed by Ms. Jeremie Ruth Ignacio, while the third place went to Cart 8 of the group led by Mr. John Mark Lubrico.

The event was organized as part of their Ergonomics classes under Engr. Mary Sol Lare and Engr. Sharmaine Avila to showcase the innovative carts that meet the need for comfort and efficiency of the target beneficiaries.
