44 OSY Graduates from Be Your Own Boss Project

“Sama-sama tayo sa pag-unlad dito sa QC at QCU” -Dr. Theresita V. Atienza

44 out-of-school youth (OSY) participants completed and graduated from the second batch of Project Be Your Own Boss (BYOB) on Monday, September 23, 2024, at the Great Eastern Hotel, Quezon City.

The opening discussion was about entrepreneurship mindset led by Ms. Sylvia Ron of Department of Trade and Industry-National Capital Region Office (DTI-NCRO), wherein she talked about the classification of Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) and highlighted their importance in contributing to economic growth. She gave emphasis on the essential characteristics of an entrepreneur and presented the traits that define them, including achievement, planning, and power.

Then, Ms. Ron shared stories of successful entrepreneurs who have been supported by the Small Business and Cooperatives Development Promotions Office (SBCDPO). In closing, she encouraged the graduates to embrace the entrepreneurial spirit and contribute to the growth and development of their community.

Also, Ms. Rigie Mae Nieva, POP QC Entrepreneur, Owner of the Cadeau by Mae Online Store, gave her inspirational message to the participants of the event. In her speech, she shared her

experiences as a young entrepreneur, the challenges she encountered, and the moving speech she left to the participants to encourage them in pursuing business careers.

After the inspirational message of Ms. Rigie, the presentation of business plans of each group began, facilitated by Prof. Jessica Sintos-Pagulayan, Project Leader of BYOB. Present in the group business plan presentation are: Prof. Geraldine S. Adalwon, Chairperson, QCU Department of Entrepreneurship, Mr. Paulo Borres, Acting Division Head, QC SBCDPO, Ms. Raphaella Mae Navarrosa, Master Trainer, Education Development Center, and Ms. Rigie Mae Nieva, Owner, Cadeau by Mae Online Store, POP QC Entrepreneur as panelists. The groups showcased their creativity on their products, and to make their plans better, the panelists guided them through questioning and suggesting ways on what they can still improve on.

Right after the business plan presentation, the panelists gave their inspirational messages to the participants. Prof. Adlawon encouraged the BYOB graduates to pursue this career. In her delivered speech she stated, “Ang pagyaman niyo ay ang pagyaman ng QC.”  After the speech, Dr. Theresita V. Atienza, QCU President and Dr. Gerardo T. Bautista, Dean of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy, along with Mr. Lenard F. Bien, Acting Director of QCU Extension Management Office, led the awarding of certificates to the panelists, guests, and BYOB completers. After the awarding of certificates, Dr. Atienza delivered her congratulatory and closing message. In her speech she extended her gratitude to the partners and encouraged the out-of-school youths to study at Quezon City University (QCU) to learn about business management, as it is important for an entrepreneur to be knowledgeable in all aspects of business. Additionally, she restated the words of Mayor Joy Belmonte quoting: “Sama-sama tayo sa pag-unlad dito sa QC at QCU” because the institution believes that no should be left behind and everyone must be included for the city’s development.
