QCU Earns ‘Reporter Status’ in THE World University Rankings 2025: The Only Philippine LUC

Quezon City University (QCU) represents one of 15 universities in the Philippines and the only Local University and College (LUC) to earn a reporter status in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025.
This status was granted after the university provided sufficient data on indicators measuring its performance across five areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.
Dr. Theresita Atienza, QCU President, stated that the university has strong plans to continue expanding and strengthening its research and internationalization efforts, as well as to improve its research publication footprint. “This ranking serves as a tool for us to benchmark and continuously improve as an institution,” she said.
According to THE website, reporter status is awarded to universities that actively participate in the rankings process and showcased commitment to higher learning, even if they have not yet met the criteria for ranking. To be eligible for a rank, universities must submit at least 1,000 papers published in journals indexed by Elsevier’s Scopus database within the last five years.
This year, six Philippine higher education institutions (HEIs) were ranked. Ateneo de Manila University led the list with a ranking of 1001-1200, followed by the University of the Philippines (1201-1500), De La Salle University, Mapúa University, Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology, and the University of Santo Tomas, all of which were ranked in the 1501+ category. The University of Oxford was then ranked as the top university in the world.
A total of 2,092 universities from 115 countries and territories were included in the rankings.
