Innovation and Technology Support Office
Quezon City University (QCU), as an institution of higher learning, a local university recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), recognizes the vital importance of developing, producing, disseminating, and sharing knowledge and intellectual products through research and scholarly activities.
Thus, the University encourages its faculty members and university researchers, including administrative employees, to publish research articles, instructional materials, books, and the design, fabrication, and construction of machinery, equipment, and technology devices. At the same time, students are expected to produce undergraduate theses, capstone projects, and special research projects.
The protection of intellectual property creates a societal benefit by allowing the results of the research projects to be known and used. The products or outcomes of these efforts usually have far-reaching social and financial implications. It is, therefore, imperative to ensure that the intellectual property rights of faculty members, administrative employees, students, and researchers within QCU are protected.
On April 25, 2023, QCU signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines to establish the QCU Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO).
No less than the chairperson of the QCU Board of Regents, Quezon City Mayor Ma. Josefina “Joy” G. Belmonte, and the IPOPHL Director-General, Atty. Rowel S. Barba, signed the MoA that formally established the ITSO in QCU. Also witnessing the MoA signing are QCU President Theresita V. Atienza and Dir. Ralph Jervis Alindogan, Director IV, Documentation, Information and Technology Transfer Bureau.
With its accreditation into the ITSO 2.0 network, QCU’s Intellectual Property Unit will also be known as an IPOPHL-accredited ITSO to be led by Prof. Maria Aura C. Impang as ITSO General Manager, under the Research, Extension, Planning, and Linkages – Research Management Office.
