QCU Completes Successful Training of Trainers for BLeSDS for OSY in Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig
QCU recently concluded a five-day Training of Trainers (TOT) program for the Barangay Leaders on Systems Delivery Support for Out-of-School Youth (BLeSDS for OSY) Executive Course program in Pasig City, funded through the Opportunity 2.0 GAIN Grant of the United States Agency for International Development-Education Development Center.
Held from August 5-9, 2024, at the Banquet Hall of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP), this training was designed to empower faculty members, administrative employees, and local government officials with the necessary skills and knowledge to support and implement the executive course in Pasig City.
The training began with an introduction to the BLeSDS for OSY program, led by Mr. Angelito Bautista Jr., Director of QCU’s Research Management Office. Participants were provided with an overview of the program’s goals, which included developing leadership and management skills among barangay officials to support OSY-focused projects. The first day also featured a session on Bridging Leadership, where the concept of collaborative action and ownership among stakeholders was introduced. The session concluded with a problem tree analysis, where participants identified and analyzed the root causes and effects of the increasing number of OSYs in Pasig City.
The training included discussions on Effective Local Capacity Strengthening, with Dr. Theresita Atienza, QCU President, leading the session. Participants learned about the importance of understanding local systems and developing community programs that address education, employment, health, and justice for OSYs. There was also a discussion on the five key functions of management—Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Coordinating, and Controlling—providing participants with a solid foundation in project management.
Mr. Kristofer Kliatchko and Ms. Raphaella Navarrosa from the USAID-Education Development Center (EDC) then delivered insightful presentations on how to view youth as assets and partners rather than problems to be solved. The session included thematic analysis and discussions on engaging youth through mentoring, career guidance, and enabling environments.
Meanwhile, Dr. Racidon P. Bernarte from the Asia Pacific Consortium of Researchers and Educators, Inc. (APCORE) facilitated the session on Fundamentals of Management 101, emphasizing the importance of project management and resource efficiency. He also led the discussion on monitoring and evaluation as well as the logic frame workshop simulation, where trainees presented projects addressing OSY needs in Pasig City.
The final day of training was dedicated to role-play exercises and action planning. Participants simulated a training session with barangay officials, applying the knowledge and skills gained
throughout the week. The session concluded with the distribution of certificates of completion, awarded by Dr. Reginald Maningas, PLP President, and Dr. Atienza. In his closing remarks, Dr. Maningas commended QCU for their dedication and the successful organization of the TOT, while Dr. Atienza encouraged the participants to apply what they had learned to make a lasting impact in their communities.
With the successful completion of the TOT in Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP) QCU has set the stage for the effective rollout of the BLeSDS for OSY program in Pasig City.
