QCU-CoE hosts first Kapihan with the President

SDG 4 8

The QCU College of Engineering recently held its Faculty Check-in Session for 2024 with the theme “Kapihan with the President” on August 6, 2024, at 4:00 PM in IK302. The purpose of this activity was to bring together the academic community to discuss progress, address challenges, and plan for future initiatives. The session was attended by faculty members from the Electronics Engineering and Industrial Engineering Departments.

During the session, Dr. Theresita V. Atienza, the University President, discussed the status of enrollment and the arrival of new equipment for the College of Engineering. Dr. Atienza congratulated the college for contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the QCU Community and suggested that SDG be included in the syllabus, as is done by other universities. The session also covered promotions of old and new Plantilla positions, with advice given to those aiming for new positions to prepare their documents.

The session also highlighted the garden built by the College of Engineering, spearheaded by Engr. Analita Cecilia C. Bello. Dr. Atienza proposed extending and maintaining the garden, as it has received commendation from distinguished guests. She even suggested establishing a green library on campus through sponsorship. The President also reminded faculty members about the forthcoming Level III ALCUCOA Accreditation, scheduled between September and October 2024.

In addition, Dr. Atienza shared information about the USAID-funded Executive Course for Barangay Leaders on System Delivery Support for the Out-of-School, for which a follow-up grant was applied. She also discussed topics related positive youth development, including efforts to support out-of-school youth who wish to return to education. Academic leniency was also addressed, as the university already practices inclusivity. The session concluded with faculty members asking clarification questions.

Overall, the “Kapihan” session proved to be a fruitful and empowering event for the College of Engineering, ensuring its continued efficiency in providing a high-quality education to the University.
