Team QCU1 Pays Courtesy Call to CHED Chair Popoy De Vera
The Quezon City University (QCU) Robotics Team QCU1, fresh from their victory at the Philippine VEX Robotics National Championship, paid a courtesy visit to Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and UniFAST Board Chairman Prof. J. Prospero “Popoy” De Vera III and CHED Commissioners at the CHED’s Central Office on February 24, 2025.
The six-member team, accompanied by QCU President Dr. Theresita V. Atienza; Dr. Ryan Arago, Dean of the College of Engineering; and Dr. Isagani Tano, Dean of the College of Computer Studies, was warmly received by CHED officials, who commended their achievement and wished them success in their upcoming international competition.
During the courtesy call, Chairman De Vera, CHED Commissioner Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela, Commissioner Desiderio R. Apag III, and NCR Regional Director Jimmy G. Catanes engaged in a hands-on testing session with the team’s award-winning robot. Chairman De Vera praised the team for the hard work and dedication of the students, who are beneficiaries of CHED’s Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST), expressing confidence that they will showcase world-class Filipino talent on the international stage.
Team QCU1, composed of John Daniel C. Cimanes, Prince L. Docot, Raniel Rick F. Peñas, Enerjhun Q. Relon, Arturo D. Marte Jr. II, and Rencis R. Sumugat, represents the Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering (BSECE) and Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) programs. With their recent national championship win, they are set to compete on the global stage at the VEX Robotics World Championship in May 2025 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas, USA.
As the team prepares for the VEX Robotics World Championship, the university continues to provide an enabling environment to its students through the strong support of CHED and the Quezon City Local Government led by Mayor Joy Belmonte in pursuing excellence in innovation, research, and global competitiveness.
