QCU, Maynilad Sign MoU on Water Education, Research, and Career Development

Quezon City University (QCU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maynilad Water Services Inc., through its Maynilad Water Academy (MWA), on January 30, 2023, at the QCU San Bartolome Campus to formalize a strategic collaboration between the academic institution and the water services company.

Present during the signing were Dr. Theresita V. Atienza, President of QCU, and Engr. Rodora N. Gamboa, Executive Director of MWA.

The primary aim of the MoU is to foster the exchange of expertise, knowledge, technology, and materials between the two institutions. The MoU will allow the two institutions to work in terms of water education and training for faculty and students, research in relevant areas, and career development for QCU students.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Bradford Antonio C. Martinez, Vice President for Academic Affairs, underscored the significance of the MoU for QCU students and faculty members. He emphasized the reciprocal benefits that this collaboration is expected to bring to both institutions.

After the ceremonial signing, Engr. Gamboa conveyed her gratitude to QCU for promptly responding to Maynilad’s partnership invitation. She elaborated on Maynilad’s objectives and how QCU’s involvement would contribute to achieving these goals.

“This would not be possible if you did not respond to our proactive stand to reach our public. Our focus is on water education, research, and career development. We need water. Maynilad does not only provide water and wastewater services; we also work for nation-building,” Engr. Gamboa emphasized.

Dr. Atienza echoed her appreciation to Maynilad for extending the invitation to QCU and assured them of the university’s unwavering commitment to advancing water and wastewater education.

“We are grateful for this opportunity. Hindi kayo nagkamali sa Quezon City University,” Dr. Atienza stated.

Also in attendance during the signing of the MoU were key QCU officials, including Dr. Randel Estacio, Dean of the College of Education; Dr. Gerardo Bautista, Dean of the

College of Business Administration and Accountancy; Dr. Ryan Arago, Dean of the College of Engineering; Prof. Lalaine Josefa Carrao, OIC-Dean of the College of Computer Studies; Mr. Lenard Bien, Acting Director, Extension Management Office; Mr. Ruben Jose Sanchez, Head of the QCU Center for Service Learning; and Mr. Angelito Bautista Jr., Director of the Research Management Office.

Representing Maynilad, the following individuals were present: Mr. Edmundo M. Perez II, Head of Technical Advocacy; Oliver B. Sta Ana, Head of Academic Services; Mr. Juan Joselito Didachus A. Jalandoni, HR Manager, Talent Acquisition; and Mr. Carlo Niccolo L. Bautista, CA&C Specialist, Government & Community Partnerships.
