QCU Launches Project Sili Demonstration Site, Advancing Urban Food Security Through Innovation and Community Partnerships
A seed was planted—and with it, a stronger movement toward sustainable urban food systems began. The successful launch of the Project Sili Demonstration Site and Harvest Festival at Quezon City University – Center for Urban Agriculture and Innovation (QCU-CUAI) marked a significant milestone in the University’s continuing commitment to advancing urban food security through collaboration, innovation, and community empowerment.
The event brought together leaders, educators, agriculturists, institutional partners, and local communities, all united by a shared vision of transforming urban spaces into productive and sustainable sources of food and opportunity. Conducted in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and the Philippine Association of Agriculturists, the initiative demonstrated how collective action can create meaningful and lasting solutions to food insecurity.
Through inspiring messages of support, ceremonial harvesting activities, and knowledge-sharing forums, the event highlighted the growing importance of urban agriculture in building resilient communities. Discussions focused on seedling production, organic farming practices, and food security initiatives, providing participants with practical insights and reinforcing the role of cities in promoting sustainable food systems.
Among the key milestones achieved during the event were the official opening of the Project Sili Demonstration Site, strengthened engagement with urban and peri-urban farmers, and expanded market opportunities for local producers. The initiative also deepened partnerships among QCU, government agencies, and private stakeholders while fostering dialogue and knowledge exchange among participants and advocates of urban agriculture.
More than a celebration of harvest, the event became a symbol of hope, resilience, and shared responsibility. Every sili harvested and every local product showcased reflected the collective effort to cultivate community-driven solutions that uplift lives and strengthen food security.
As the University expressed its gratitude to all partners and participants, QCU reaffirmed that the Project Sili initiative is only the beginning. Together with its partners and communities, the University remains committed to planting innovation, cultivating resilience, and harvesting a more sustainable future where no community is left behind.
