QCU-College of Engineering Hosts Successful PIONEER Student Research Conference

Quezon City University-College of Engineering (QCU-CoE) recently concluded its highly anticipated PIONEER Student Research Conference 2024 on May 16, 2024 at the QCU Auditorium.

The theme of the event is “Empowering Tomorrow’s Engineers Through Sustainable Solutions and Technological Innovations,” which emphasizes the importance of collaborative research in addressing global challenges and promoting sustainable development, and is part of the two-day 2024 Quezon City University Research Colloquium – Student Research Conference, organized by the CoE, College of Computer Studies, and the Research, Extension, Planning, and Linkages – Research Management Office.

PIONEER 2024 began with the opening remarks from Dr. Theresita V. Atienza, the University President, who highlighted the College of Engineering’s commitment to innovation and technology.

“QCU is dedicated to empowering our students to become innovators and change-makers in their respective fields, and the College of Engineering is at the pioneer of that,” said Dr. Atienza.

Day 1 of the event had some notable highlights. One of them was an inspiring plenary talk by Engr. Eric Soliman, the CEO and President of Hytec Inc., and Engr. Emmanuel M. Mendoza, ME, MBA, Division Chief of the IP Regional Operations Division.

Engr. Soliman talked about his business ventures and discussed the broader business environment. As the CEO of Hytec Power Incorporated, he shared his achievements and gave valuable insights to engineering students on how to manage a business and adapt to the corporate landscape as engineers.

“Innovation is the key to solving today’s challenges, and events like these provide a platform for young minds to contribute meaningful solutions,” Engr. Soliman stressed.

Engr. Mendoza, on the other hand, focused on the significance of patenting systems and instructions. He gave a detailed, step-by-step explanation of the patenting process in relation to research. He emphasized the processes involved in securing authorship and the benefits associated with it.

Moreover, twelve Industrial Engineering and Electronics Engineering fourth-year students delivered engaging paper presentations showcasing groundbreaking research projects. The event also featured twelve informative poster presentations that highlighted innovative projects addressing various societal challenges to achieve sustainable development goals.

The judging panel for the paper and poster presentations consisted of alumni and faculty members, ensuring a rigorous evaluation process. The winners of the Best Research Paper, Best Oral Presenter, and Best Poster Presentation categories were announced, recognizing the exceptional contributions of QCU students to research and innovation.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Ryan Arago, Dean of the College of Engineering, expressed gratitude to the organizing committee, program chairpersons, student organizations, faculty members, and participants for their support in making the event a success.

“We are proud of our students’ achievements and their dedication to advancing knowledge and technology,” said Dr. Arago. “Their research is a testament of QCU’s commitment to excellence and innovation.”

Overall, the University Research Colloquium – PIONEER 2024 was a resounding success, showcasing QCU’s commitment to fostering innovation and empowering tomorrow’s engineers through sustainable solutions and technological innovations. The second day of the University Research Colloquium was hosted by the College of Computer Studies on May 18, 2024.
