QCians attend Sining Kambayoka Ensemble’s 50th Anniversary at CCP

QCians witnessed the culturally-rich and mesmerizing performance brought by the Sumindaw Performing Arts from Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur with their award winning piece, “Sulambi” as part of the three-day 50th anniversary celebration of Sining Kambayoka Ensemble last September 25, 2024 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

“Sulambi” revolves around the lives and culture of the Subanens at Zamboanga del Sur which highlights their adaptability to every challenge that comes along the way of their community. It was written by Sunnie Noel and won second prize at the Palanca Awards for One-Act Play in 1995.

Prior to the performance, the audience was invited to join in executing the ritual called “Suban Shaman” wherein each person can offer two identical coins.

The first day of the event featured the story, “Pilandok” which was presented by the Sining Kambayoka Ensemble from Mindanao State University-Marawi (MSU Marawi) and on the last day, “Si Nonoy at si Inday” was shown by Sining Sarangan Ensemble from General Santos City.

After the show, the audience was able to interact and have photo opportunities with the casts and the people behind the production of Sulambi.
