Earth Day Jam 2025 Ignites Youth Power and Environmental Passion at QCU
Quezon City University (QCU) pulsed with music, advocacy, and youthful energy as it hosted Earth Day Jam 2025, transforming the campus into a vibrant hub for environmental awareness and creative expression.
This year’s celebration spotlighted homegrown talent and the role of the arts in driving climate consciousness. With strong backing from the Quezon City local government, led by Mayor Joy Belmonte, the event echoed the city’s commitment to sustainability and aligned seamlessly with its ongoing green initiatives.
Mayor Belmonte, recognized as one of the Champions of the Earth—an award given to individuals and organizations whose actions bring transformative change in ecological conservation—has positioned Quezon City as a model for sustainable governance. Under her leadership, the city has pioneered policies aimed at minimizing plastic pollution and promoting long-term environmental stewardship.
Featuring the concert was Lou Bonnevie, Pop Rock icon and President and Executive Producer of Earthday Jam Foundation Inc., whose leadership and artistry have long championed environmental causes through music. Joining her were celebrated Filipino bands Paraluman, Better Days, and Imago, each blending music with a message, inspiring the QCU community to take action for the planet.
The event also featured inspiring talks from resource speakers who brought fresh perspectives on climate advocacy and urban sustainability:
- Rain Bello, a climate activist, health advocate, and Climate Reality Leader from Quezon City, shared his journey from Youth Strike 4 Climate Philippines to championing climate justice for marginalized communities disproportionately affected by the climate crisis.
- Bea Dolores, a proud kababayan of Gat Jose Rizal and co-founder of Renacimiento Manila, emphasized the importance of planning with biodiversity and cultural identity at the core. Trained in architecture and urban design at Mapúa University, she advocates for a thoughtful and inclusive approach to urban renewal.
Beyond the stage, the campus came alive with student-run sustainability booths, eco-awareness exhibits, and interactive activities that invited hands-on learning and community engagement.
A special highlight of the event was the Green Warriors’ Award, recognizing student organizations that demonstrated outstanding commitment to environmental advocacy:
• Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers Operations Research Society of the Philippines – QCU Chapter
• Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines – QCU Chapter
• BSA – 1C Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants – QCU Chapter
Adding a touch of celebration and personality to the event, Francis Olila was crowned Mr. Earth Day Jam 2025, while Armary Jane Julian took home the title of Ms. Earth Day Jam 2025, embodying the spirit of youth leadership and eco-consciousness.
More than just a musical event, Earth Day Jam 2025 at QCU became a platform for creative activism, local pride, and collective action—showing how universities and communities can unite to shape a greener, more sustainable future.
