QCU Strengthens Extension Initiatives through RECAP
Quezon City University (QCU), through the Research, Extension, Planning and Linkages – Extension Management Office (REPL-EMO), successfully conducted the Research and Extension Capability Advancement Program (RECAP) Sessions for Extension on September 22, 23, and 25, 2026, at the QCU Main Campus.
The three-session capability-building program brought together faculty members from the University’s academic programs to strengthen their competencies in developing responsive, evidence-based, and sustainable extension projects, while promoting a stronger culture of volunteerism and community service within the University.
During the opening of the program, QCU President Dr. Theresita V. Atienza underscored the importance of strengthening the University’s extension initiatives through projects that respond to the actual needs of communities and draw from the expertise of QCU’s academic programs.
Dr. Atienza encouraged faculty participants to maximize the learning opportunities offered through RECAP and translate their knowledge and expertise into meaningful initiatives that can provide lasting benefits to partner communities.
Throughout the sessions, participants revisited the fundamentals and role of university extension, examined the alignment of proposed projects with the QCU SMILE Extension Program and the University’s Extension Agenda, Thrusts, and Priorities, and explored community needs assessment as an essential foundation for designing appropriate extension interventions.
The program also guided participants in strengthening their project concepts through results-based planning, monitoring and evaluation, and sustainability planning. Through collaborative discussions and workshops, faculty proponents refined their Extension Project Capsules, translating academic expertise and volunteerism into responsive, relevant, and sustainable initiatives for communities.
Through RECAP, QCU continues to strengthen its culture of volunteerism, community engagement, and service, empowering faculty members to share their knowledge, skills, and expertise in addressing community needs and contributing to meaningful and sustainable social development.
