QCU Welcomes Academic Year 2026-2027 with Focus on Digital Transformation and Sustainability
“Innovating for Tomorrow, Sustaining for Good: Navigating the Future Together”
Quezon City University (QCU) welcomes Academic Year 2026–2027 with a renewed commitment to preparing students for a future shaped by technological innovation, environmental responsibility, and meaningful community impact.
Under the theme “Innovating for Tomorrow, Sustaining for Good: Navigating the Future Together,” QCU President Dr. Theresita V. Atienza called on the entire University community to embrace the new academic year as an important chapter in QCU’s continuing evolution as a premier local university.
“As we gather across our San Bartolome, Batasan, and San Francisco campuses, we do not merely begin another academic cycle—we step into a pivotal moment in Quezon City University’s evolution,” Dr. Atienza said in her welcome message.
She emphasized that the University’s direction for AY 2026–2027 will be anchored on two interconnected priorities: Digital Transformation and a Green, Sustainability-Driven Curriculum.
Building a Green and Sustainable Curriculum
For QCU, sustainability is moving beyond a stand-alone concept and becoming an integral part of the learning experience.
The University is advancing the integration of sustainability competencies across its academic programs, enabling students from disciplines such as Business, Computer Studies, Engineering, and Education to engage with concepts including circular economy, green engineering, environmental ethics, and sustainable business models.
Dr. Atienza also highlighted the importance of action-oriented research, particularly research that responds to pressing urban challenges facing Quezon City. These include climate resilience, smart energy solutions, waste management, and sustainable urban planning.
QCU campuses will likewise serve as “green campus labs,” where students can design, test, and implement practical environmental solutions while participating in community-based initiatives.
This direction builds on the University’s growing efforts in sustainability, urban agriculture, research, innovation, and community engagement—positioning QCU not only as a place where sustainability is taught, but as a university where sustainable solutions can be developed and put into action.
Advancing Digital Transformation
Alongside sustainability, QCU is strengthening its digital transformation agenda to create a smarter, more efficient, and future-ready university.
The University continues to enhance its digital resources, hybrid learning spaces, and online administrative services as part of its goal of building a smart and less-paper campus. These initiatives are intended to streamline student workflows while reducing the environmental impact of traditional processes.
Digital transformation will also be reflected in the classroom. Students will increasingly engage with data analytics, artificial intelligence, and automation, equipping them with the digital competencies needed to address increasingly complex social, economic, and environmental challenges.
For QCU, technology is not an end in itself. Rather, it is a catalyst for innovation and a tool for creating solutions that benefit people, communities, and the environment.
Empowering the QCUian of the Future
In her message to students, Dr. Atienza encouraged QCUians to use the academic year as an opportunity to challenge convention and transform ideas into meaningful impact.
“You are preparing to be part of a global workforce where the most sought-after leaders are those who combine tech fluency with an environmental conscience,” she said.
Whether through developing energy-efficient software, creating low-impact engineering solutions, conducting sustainability-focused research, or launching sustainable ventures, students are encouraged to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges.
This vision reflects QCU’s broader commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically competent, but also innovative, socially responsible, and prepared to contribute to a rapidly changing world.
A Shared Commitment
Dr. Atienza likewise recognized the faculty and staff who will help translate the University’s vision into meaningful learning experiences.
By incorporating sustainability principles into their courses and adopting innovative digital teaching approaches, faculty members and academic personnel play a critical role in shaping a generation of ethical innovators who can contribute to the development of Quezon City and the nation.
As QCU begins AY 2026–2027, the University community is called to move forward with a shared vision: to harness technology to work smarter, embrace sustainability as a way of life, and turn education into meaningful action.
“Let us step into AY 2026–2027 with clear vision, shared ambition, and bold action,” Dr. Atienza said.
On behalf of the Board of Regents, chaired by Quezon City Mayor Josefina “Joy” Belmonte, and the University Executive Committee, Dr. Atienza extended her wishes for an inspiring, innovative, and green academic year to the entire QCU community.
With innovation as its catalyst and sustainability as its compass, QCU moves into a new academic year ready to navigate the future—together.
