QCU IE Students Showcase Data-Driven Innovations at Inaugural IE-SIP OptiSphere Conference
Quezon City University’s (QCU) Industrial Engineering students demonstrated innovation and research excellence during the successful debut of the IE-SIP OptiSphere Conference, an academic platform where optimization theories and human-centered engineering converged to address real-world operational challenges.
The conference highlighted the collaborative final research outputs of third-year Industrial Engineering students from two major subject areas. Students specializing in Operations Research 2 completed their studies under the guidance of faculty advisers Engr. Raniel Taripe, Engr. Rowel Alarcon, and Engr. Rodolfo Salinas, while students focusing on Cognitive Ergonomics were mentored by Engr. Sharmaine Avila and Engr. Marry Sol Lare.
Opening the program, QCU President Dr. Theresita V. Atienza emphasized the vital role of students in advancing the university’s vision of becoming a “think tank of data to help the community.” She commended the engineering students for generating meaningful interest through the quality of their research and challenged them to continuously enhance their technical competencies to create lasting impact for society.
The conference featured rigorous oral presentations and technical defense sessions, culminating in the recognition of outstanding research studies.
In the Operations Research 2 category, the top award was given to the study titled “An Analysis of Waiting Time and Service Performance Using Queueing Theory at Jollibee Holy Cross Branch, Quezon City,” presented by Kenneth Cosep, Ryan Joshnie Sapunto, Froilan Escatoto, Desiree Jane Maramara, and Maria Angela Rejaba.
Meanwhile, the Ergonomics 2 category recognized the study “Analyzing Identification Errors of NGC Silver Coins Among Sari-sari Store Vendors in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City,” presented by Daniel Belza, Jeremiah Cabading, Mark Justine Manguera, Alyanna Vaness Navarro, and Jasper Lamadora, as champion.
Following evaluations by a panel of industry and academic experts, the event concluded with an awarding ceremony honoring the exceptional efforts of the student researchers, organizers, and faculty advisers.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Ryan Arago encouraged students to treat the conference as a strong foundation for future capstone and professional achievements.
As its inaugural edition, the IE-SIP OptiSphere Conference marked a significant milestone for the QCU Industrial Engineering community, celebrating academic excellence, innovation, and the commitment of future engineers to develop practical, data-driven solutions for the community.
