QCU Unveils Student-Designed Belgian Corner, Celebrating 80 Years of Philippines–Belgium Friendship

SDG 4 11 17

As the Philippines and Belgium celebrate 80 years of diplomatic relations, Quezon City University (QCU) proudly welcomed the Embassy of Belgium in Manila, in partnership with SPARK Philippines, for a historic engagement that placed student creativity and global collaboration at the forefront.

At the heart of the visit was the inauguration of the Belgian Corner at the QCU Library—a space entirely conceptualized, designed, and realized by QCU students. From initial research and thematic planning to layout, visuals, and curation, the design process was a collaborative journey led by students who translated history, culture, and shared values into a meaningful learning environment. The Belgian Corner stands as a living testament to how student ideas, when empowered, can evolve into spaces that inspire dialogue, curiosity, and international understanding.

The celebration was further enriched by an inspiring lecture from Her Excellency Ambassador Vladislava Iordanova, who introduced Belgium’s culture, values, and academic opportunities—broadening global perspectives for the QCU community. This was complemented by a presentation from Ryan Pascual of the Philippine Association of Belgian University Scholars, who shared concrete pathways for Filipino students aspiring to pursue higher education in Belgium.

The Embassy delegation lauded QCU’s commitment to sustainability, particularly its urban farming initiatives, and expressed admiration for the ingenuity, engagement, and leadership demonstrated by its students and faculty. The student-designed Belgian Corner stood as a powerful reflection of QCU’s educational philosophy—where learning is experiential, collaborative, and deeply connected to the real world.

QCU extends its deepest gratitude to the Embassy of Belgium in Manila, SPARK Philippines, and the entire QCU community. As we commemorate 80 years of Belgium–Philippines friendship, QCU proudly reaffirms its mission to nurture students who design with purpose, lead with vision, and build bridges that connect nations and generations.
