QCU Students Continue to Benefit from QCity Bus “Libreng Sakay” Program
The Quezon City Bus “Libreng Sakay” program of the Quezon City Government continues to provide essential transport support to students of Quezon City University (QCU), reinforcing the city’s inclusive commitment to accessible education and social protection under Sustainable Development Goal 1.3.3 — ensuring social protection for all and access to essential services.
Now on its fourth full year of implementation, the QCity Bus network remains a lifeline for thousands of daily commuters, particularly students from low-income families. For QCU students, the free shuttle service between Quezon City Hall and General Luis—with a designated bus stop directly in front of the QCU San Bartolome Campus—continues to make their journey to and from classes more convenient, comfortable, and cost-efficient.
QCU President Dr. Theresita V. Atienza expressed her appreciation to Mayor Joy Belmonte and the city government for sustaining the program:
“This initiative truly demonstrates the city’s care for its students and families. By easing transportation costs, the QCity Bus program directly supports access to education and aligns with our mission to promote equity and student welfare.”
The Libreng Sakay program has become an example of how local government programs can work hand-in-hand with educational institutions to promote inclusive, sustainable, and student-centered development. Beyond reducing daily expenses, the initiative contributes to reducing the city’s carbon footprint through shared public transportation and encourages civic pride among QCU students as beneficiaries of a people-focused governance effort.
With QCU’s continued partnership in promoting and supporting the QCity Bus network, the university remains a vital ally of the Quezon City Government in realizing the city’s vision of a green, inclusive, and education-driven metropolis where no student is left behind.
