QCU Strengthens Research and Extension Culture through first REAP 2023 Action Planning
Quezon City University (QCU) took a significant step in strengthening its research and extension culture with the first Research and Extension Action Planning (REAP) 2023 Action Planning held on November 23, 2023 at the Engineering Laboratory, Laboratory Building, QCU San Bartolome Main Campus.
The strategic planning was attended by the college deans, program chairpersons, and department heads led by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Bradford Antonio C. Martinez, as well as the Quality Assurance, Curriculum, and Instructional Materials office and the QCU Center for Urban Agriculture and Innovation (QCU-CUAI).
Mr. Angelito Bautista Jr., Acting Director of the Research Management Office, set the tone for the day by recapping the functional statements of the Research, Extension, Planning, and Linkages (REPL) office, currently under the Office of the President. He also gave an overview of REPL’s organizational chart, the responsibilities of each unit, the Synergetic Framework on the Relationship of Instruction, Research, Extension, and Production Programs of QCU, and the QCU Research Agenda and Program.
This was followed by the presentation of Dir. Ruben Jose Sanchez, Acting Director of the Extension Management Office (EMO), on the priority extension projects of QCU, notably under the QCU S.M.I.L.E extension program.
One of the central activities of the planning was the SWOT Analysis, where participants, divided by college, identified strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) in their colleges in terms of research and extension activities. Following the activity, Dr. Theresita V. Atienza, University President, emphasized the need for action planning to address weaknesses and drive valuable research and extension projects. She also reminded the participants of the importance of collaborative and forward-thinking strategic planning in shaping the future of research and extension in the university.
The second part of the workshop focused on choosing which programs, projects, or activities to implement in 2024 to address identified weaknesses per college. The participants also discussed the research priorities for 2024, emphasizing the need for collaborative research, better use of research, and the conduct of impact assessments.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Martinez sought the participants’ commitment to implement the identified priority projects and continuously support the efforts of REPL for the University.
