The QCU Extension Management Office and Community Engagement Unit under the VP for Research, Extension, Planning, and Linkages conducted a two-day training of trainers for the Entrepreneurship Faculty from November 29 to 30, 2023 on the Be Your Own Boss (BYOB) curriculum to capacitate them on how to properly conduct the training as part of their extension program.

Mr. Angelito P. Bautista Jr., Acting Director of the Research Management Office, and Mr. Ruben Jose G. Sanchez, Acting Director of the Extension Management Office, both BYOB curriculum certified trainers of USAID Opportunity 2.0 and Education Development Center (EDC), served as the resource speakers. The sessions were conducted at Room 204 Laboratory Room, Laboratory Bldg., QCU Main Campus.

The training, attended by 24 Entrepreneurship faculty members from the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA), covered the BYOB facilitator’s guide and learner’s handbook composed of four (4) modules: What is my Business? (Module 1), My Business Needs Customers (Module 2), Managing my Business and Personal Finance (Module 3), and My Pathway for my Business (Module 4).

The first day of the training started with the introduction and briefing provided by Mr. Lenard Bien, Head of the Community Engagement Unit, who underscored how the University became involved in the project. He also gave the participants a backgrounder on the first training of trainers attended by QCU Administrative Personnel with entrepreneurship or business education backgrounds. He also discussed the University-wide Extension Program entitled, “Project Be Your Own Boss: QC Youth Entrepreneurship Program,” which was attended by 50 out-of-school youth from selected barangays in District 5, QC.

The formal training started with the discussion of Mr. Bautista, who facilitated the discussion on the first two modules of the BYOB training, discussing how to deliver the discussions on five topics, namely: The Concept of Business (Topic 1), Characteristics of a Successful Business Owner (Topic 2), Business Ideas (Topic 3), Customer Service (Topic 4), and Marketing (Topic 5).

The second day began with the demonstration of learning by two members of the faculty: Prof. Danilo Facon who served as demo facilitator for The Concept of Business followed by Prof. Bert Danan on Customer Service. Afterward, Mr. Sanchez presented the remaining two modules on Finance (Topic 6) and Crafting Business Plan (Topic 7).

The training ended with the presentation of the Certificates of Completion and Recognition.

The two-day training is part of the priority extension projects of QCU in partnership with the USAID, EDC, and QC Small Business and Cooperatives Development, and Promotions Office (SBCDPO).
