QCU Promotes Food Security through Urban Agriculture and Campus Gardening Initiatives

Quezon City University (QCU), through its Center for Urban Agriculture and Innovation (CUAI) and in partnership with the Quezon City Government, actively promotes food security and sustainable nutrition among students and nearby communities.
The initiative—known as “Joy is a Farm”—transforms unused university spaces into productive urban gardens, cultivating vegetables and herbs using hydroponics and organic methods.
A portion of the harvests is used for student food demonstrations, nutrition-related extension activities, and awareness campaigns on sustainable diets and food waste reduction.
These campus-based projects not only provide fresh produce but also serve as learning laboratories where students gain practical experience in sustainability, entrepreneurship, and community resilience.
This initiative supports SDG 2: Zero Hunger and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, demonstrating how QCU integrates environmental sustainability and food access into both academic and social programs.
