QCU Participates in DOST’s Startup Development and Innovation Ecosystem Mapping Consultation Meeting

Quezon City University (QCU) joined the Consultation Meeting on Startup Development and Innovation Ecosystem Mapping for CAMANAVA (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela) and Quezon City Areas, held on May 17, 2024, at the Henry Sy, Sr. Innovation Center, Miriam College.

The event, organized by SCALE NCR and the Department of Science and Technology-National Capital Region (DOST-NCR), aimed to assess the startup landscape and the level of engagement of key players in the CAMANAVA and Quezon City areas.

The meeting began with welcome remarks from Assistant Regional Director Ma. Christine C. Dominado, representing Engr. Romel T. Tresvalles. Engr. Federico C. Gonzales, Startup Mapping Technical Lead and Chairman of SCALE NCR, provided an overview of the ReSEED Program and the startup ecosystem. Ms. Kate Tabaquin from StartUP QC shared Quezon City’s Investment Priorities Plan, emphasizing the initiatives of the StartUP QC program.

Ms. Samantha Chico from PhilDev discussed PhilDev’s programs for startups, emphasizing the importance of fostering technopreneurship among students. A fireside chat featuring successful entrepreneurs, including Mr. Ivan Nara from KoolGear, provided insights into their startup journeys.

During breakout sessions, participants discussed the challenges and opportunities in the startup ecosystem. The session highlighted the importance of stakeholder consultations and identified key programs for fostering entrepreneurship among students, as well as how to improve the Startup Development Ecosystem Mapping for NCR instrument. In his closing remarks, Engr. Gonzales expressed gratitude to the participants for their inputs, which will inform the development of a startup development plan.
