QCU and Barangay Sauyo Strengthen Collaboration through Project Karunungan on Wheels
The Quezon City University (QCU), in its continued efforts to extend educational opportunities to the community, held a pivotal meeting with Barangay Sauyo to discuss a potential partnership for “Project Karunungan on Wheels.”
The initiative aims to bring education directly to the youth and residents of the barangay, underscoring the university’s commitment to inclusive learning and community engagement.
This discussion builds upon the strong foundation established by the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between QCU and Barangay Sauyo, which seeks to enhance community development through educational outreach.
The “Karunungan on Wheels” project, spearheaded by Barangay Sauyo, seeks to bring mobile education to underserved communities, ensuring that education is accessible even to those with limited opportunities. QCU’s participation comes through two of its colleges: the College of Education and the College of Engineering.
The College of Education is allowing its students to join as volunteer teachers, providing hands-on teaching experience while also helping educate the community. Meanwhile, the College of Engineering is applying engineering principles to help improve the mobile learning facilities, ensuring the project’s infrastructure is both sustainable and efficient.
Key attendees of the meeting included Mr. Lenard Bien, Acting Director of the QCU Extension Management Office, Dr. Ryan F. Arago, Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Jeffrey L. Cacho, Chairperson of the BS Industrial Engineering Program, Engr. Leonard Catchillar,
Chairperson of the BS Electronics Engineering Program, and Michael Agang of REPL-EMO. Student leaders from EdukClub, PIIE-ORSP QCU SC, and IECEP QCU SC were also present to show their support for the initiative.
Barangay Sauyo was represented by Hon. Karen Quilo-Diaz, Barangay Kagawad, and Ms. Joy Eria Arminal, both of whom expressed their gratitude for QCU’s involvement, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in addressing the community’s educational needs.
This partnership highlights the significance of integrating academic expertise with grassroots initiatives, ensuring that education and innovation reach even the most underserved populations. With “Karunungan on Wheels,” Barangay Sauyo and QCU are taking a step forward in empowering the local community through education and engineering solutions.
