QCU Batasan Partners with Klinika Batasan and TLF SHARE to provide Sexual and Reproductive Health Care Services for Students
Quezon City University (QCU) has collaborated with Klinika Batasan and TLF SHARE in holding a free educational seminar and HIV screenings on April 8, 2024, at QCU Batasan Campus.
Led by Klinika Batasan’s team of peer educators, including Lovie Superable, Jetlee Bautista, Bryan Pocua, and Algie Caralos, alongside TLF SHARE’s Project Manager Basha Cancillar, and with support from the QCU Medical Services Unit, the seminar aimed to raise awareness about human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) and promote proactive measures for prevention and early detection. The sessions covered essential topics such as HIV 101, Transgender Health Education, SOGIE 101, PrEP awareness, and HIV screening, aligning closely with the Department of Health’s program on HIV/STI.
Mr. Michelangelo Fulo, Director of the QCU Batasan Campus, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, “This collaboration underscores our commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare services to our students. By offering free HIV testing and educational seminars, we empower our community to make informed decisions about their sexual health and well-being.”
The seminar took place in the basement of QCU Batasan Campus and was divided into two sessions – one from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and another from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. It was attended by students from Ms. Jona Marquez’s BAEnt 4C and Mr. Danilo Facon’s BAEnt 4D Entrepreneurship classes.
Klinika Batasan and TLF SHARE serve as implementing bodies for education on the Most-at-Risk Population (MARP), Men having Sex with Men (MSM), Transgender Women (TGW), Young Key Population (YKP), and the general population playing an important role in curbing the spread of HIV and STI infections in Quezon City.
This initiative not only provided participants with valuable insights into HIV prevention, transmission, and treatment but also fostered a culture of inclusivity and support for marginalized communities, including transgender individuals and young key populations.
