QC Pushes Forward with Calorie Labeling Ordinance; QCU to Conduct Baseline and Impact Research
Quezon City University (QCU) joined other key stakeholders in the Calorie Labeling Ordinance Technical Working Group (TWG) Meeting on April 4, 2025, at the 3rd Floor Executive Lounge, Legislative Building, Quezon City Hall.
The meeting was convened by the Quezon City Health Department (QCHD) to finalize communication plans, prepare for the baseline survey, and align efforts toward the effective implementation of the Calorie Labeling Ordinance.
Mr. Angelito P. Bautista Jr., Director of QCU’s Research Management Office, represented QCU in the meeting and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to support the city’s public health initiatives through research collaboration.
The meeting presided over by Ms. Jirah Asa M. Sideco of QCHD, was attended by key city officials, including Atty. Rene S. Grapilon, Assistant City Administrator for General Affairs, and City Administrator Michael Victor N. Alimurung. Highlights of the session included a presentation of the ordinance’s key messages and proposed Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials. The messages focus on empowering consumers to make healthier food choices through clearer nutrition information on menus.
ImagineLaw, represented by Ms. Jeline Marie M. Corpuz, presented the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework and proposed Baseline Survey Protocol, which aims to establish benchmarks for evaluating the ordinance’s impact. The baseline study will assess consumer knowledge, menu offerings, and sales patterns in covered restaurants.
As part of the next steps, QCU will collaborate with QCHD and ImagineLaw in developing the research protocol and data collection tools. A follow-up meeting is scheduled to finalize these instruments. QCU’s involvement positions the university as a valuable partner in generating data-driven insights that inform health policy.
