QCU Strengthens Cybersecurity Readiness Through DICT Risk Management Training
Quezon City University (QCU) strengthened its cybersecurity risk management capabilities through the Cybersecurity Risk Management Training conducted by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on July 29–30, 2026, via Zoom.
The two-day training provided participants with practical knowledge on identifying, assessing, prioritizing, and treating cybersecurity risks, as well as preparing organizations to respond to and recover from cybersecurity incidents.
Sessions covered key cybersecurity threats, including malware, ransomware, phishing, social engineering, insider threats, third-party risks, and system misconfigurations. Participants also learned risk prioritization using the 5 × 5 Risk Matrixand vulnerability assessment through the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) v4.0.
The training also introduced major cybersecurity frameworks, including ISO/IEC 27001, COBIT 2019, and NIST CSF 2.0, and discussed appropriate approaches to risk treatment—avoid, transfer, mitigate, and accept. Participants further explored preventive, detective, and corrective security controls, including multi-factor authentication, least-privilege access, security monitoring, and incident response procedures.
The second day focused on incident response and recovery, highlighting the importance of Business Continuity Plans (BCP), Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP), Business Impact Analysis (BIA), Recovery Time Objectives (RTO), and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
The training was facilitated by cybersecurity professionals Flordeliza R. Fernandez and Czaurin R. Bercasio, who shared their expertise through lectures, case scenarios, framework discussions, and practical exercises.
The activity underscores QCU’s commitment to strengthening its cybersecurity posture and ensuring the resilience, continuity, and security of its digital systems and services.
