QCU Robotics Team Earns Global Ranking at the 2026 VEX Robotics World Championship
Quezon City University (QCU) achieved a major international milestone after QCU1 – Alpha 41st and QCU2 – Beta 50th out of 84 teams worldwide in the Skills Challenge at the prestigious VEX Robotics World Championship 2026 held from April 24 to 27, 2026, at the America’s Center Convention Complex.
The achievement placed the university among the world’s top-performing robotics teams, highlighting QCU’s growing excellence in robotics engineering, autonomous programming, and innovation on the global stage.
“Quezon City University (QCU) Robotics has secured a spot in the VEX Robotics World Championship following a stellar performance at the National Championship. The team achieved a prestigious global ranking of 31st out of 266 teams in the Robot Skills Challenge.”
Organized by the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation, the competition gathered elite university robotics teams from around the world to compete in highly challenging matches focused on robot performance, engineering design, programming precision, and strategic execution.
Representing both the Philippines and Quezon City University were two teams: QCU1 – Alpha QCU and QCU2 – Beta QCU, composed of students from the university’s engineering and technology programs. Competing against internationally recognized institutions, the QCU teams demonstrated resilience, technical expertise, and competitive potential throughout the championship.
QCU1 emerged as one of the standout performers in the competition, delivering several dominant victories during the qualification rounds, including commanding shutout wins of 101–0 and 100–0. QCU1 achieved Rank 17 out of 39 teams, and QCU2 Rank 29 out of 40 teams in their division, narrowly missing advancement to the elimination rounds by only one rank.
The ranking reflected the team’s excellence in autonomous operations and driver-controlled performance, showcasing the students’ high level of preparation, innovation, and technical capability.
The university delegation was guided by dedicated mentors and institutional leaders, including Dr. Ryan F. Arago, Dean of the College of Engineering; Engr. Leonard A. Catchillar, Chairperson of the Department of Electronics Engineering; Dr. Paula Joy L. Dela Cruz, Dean of the College of Computer Studies; and Dr. Theresita V. Atienza, University President. Their mentorship and leadership played a vital role in preparing the students for the rigorous international competition.
Beyond rankings and match outcomes, the championship provided QCU students with a transformative learning experience that strengthened their competencies in robotics systems, engineering design, programming, communication, and teamwork. More importantly, the university’s strong global performance reinforced QCU’s commitment to producing industry-ready graduates capable of competing and excelling on the international stage.
Through this achievement, Quezon City University continues to elevate Filipino talent in robotics and innovation, proving that QCU students can stand alongside the world’s best in engineering and technology competitions.
