QCU Leaves a Mark at AGraSS 2024, Championing Sustainable Development

Quezon City University (QCU) showcased its academic excellence and commitment to sustainable development at the ASIAN Graduate Studies Summit 2024 (AGraSS 2024). The summit, hosted by the Asia-Pacific Consortium of Researchers and Educators (APCORE), Inc. and the Burapha University – Graduate School, took place from April 3 to 5, 2024, at the Bangsaen Heritage Hotel in Chon Buri, Thailand. This gathering brought together leading minds from across Asia to discuss “Integrative Solutions for the Future of Asia: Catalyzing Graduate Research for Sustainable Development.”

Dr. Theresita V. Atienza, University President, led QCU’s delegation and delivered a compelling presentation titled “Graduate Education and Artificial Intelligence: Prospects and Perspectives” during a round-table discussion on “Reimagining Graduate Education in Asia: Aligning with Sustainable Development Goals for a Resilient Future.” Dr. Atienza shed light on the transformative potential of AI in reshaping graduate education, earning praise from attendees and solidifying QCU’s reputation as an academic innovator.

In addition, QCU officials and faculty members, including Dr. Ryan Arago, Dean of the College of Engineering; Dr. Randel Estacio, Dean of the College of Education; Dr. Nina Apusaga, Dr. Aura Marie Novesteras, Dr. Earlee Angel Reyes, and Ms. Angela Arago, presented their research papers during the parallel paper sessions. The research covered various areas such as quality education, reducing inequalities, industry innovation and infrastructure, and poverty eradication. Notably, Dr. Estacio’s paper was selected as a finalist for the Best Research Award in the Social Science category. He also attended an exploratory meeting on faculty exchange with the BU – College of Education.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ryan Arago and Ms. Angela L. Arago served as co-chairs for the Business, Finance, and Management session. Dr. Erlee Angel S. Reyes acted as co-chair for Social Sciences, and Dr. Niña C. Apusaga as one of the co-chairs for Education.

Furthermore, the team of Ms. Arago and Dr. Apusaga, under the leadership of Dr. Sheryl Ramirez from Emilio Aguinaldo College, emerged as one of the three winners of the Research Incubation Hub for their research concept titled “iSpot: Development of a Web-based Health Surveillance System for Emerging Diseases.” They will receive an initial grant of Php50,000.00 to complete their research proposal and have the opportunity to compete for a Php1 million research grant.

The QCU delegation also played a significant role in the Summit as part of the technical and secretariat team. Mr. Lenard Bien served as one of the emcees of the conference, while Mr. Bernard Forbes assisted with documentation and the online team. Mr. Angelito Bautista Jr. supervised the technical team and served as the coordinator for the publication and research awards committees.

QCU’s successful participation in AGRass 2024 not only demonstrates its commitment to international collaboration but also highlights its pivotal role in championing academic excellence, innovation, and societal impact through research and extension to create a brighter and more sustainable future for all.
