[WATCH] Mayor Joy Belmonte: “We are in the best position to positively impact the delivery of inclusive and quality education through good governance”

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, chairperson of the Quezon City University (QCU) Board of Regents (BOR), served as one of the keynote speakers during the second day of the 16th  National Conference of the Association of Local Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (ALCUCOA) held on October 3, 2023, at the Manila Hotel.

A highlight of her speech is her call for local chief executives to use their positions to make a positive impact toward achieving quality education in the country.

“[We are in the best positive to provide] a platform that fosters an environment that is transparent, participative, demands accountability, promotes the rule of law, and always serves the best interests of our constituents,” Mayor Joy explained.

She also emphasized the QC government’s commitment to advocate policies and implement programs that support the city’s educational institutions such as the development of an education roadmap that will serve as a guiding framework for every individual in QC as they pursue their educational aspirations.

“Good governance and education are intertwined in advancing an inclusive society,” she stated.

Mayor Joy also reiterated her administration’s commitment to continuously support its local university under the leadership of Dr. Theresita V. Atienza, the president of QCU. 

“Because she and I are aligned in our values in terms of good governance, ang sabi ko, ‘Doc Tere, good governance lang tayo. At ang best na serbisyo ang kailangan nating ibigay sa ating mga mag-aaral,” the Mayor added.

She also highlighted the importance of building trust with the government among the public as a tool for ensuring the success of the LGU’s projects.

“Pag maayos ang aming lungsod, dadami ang magtitiwala sa lungsod, dadami ang investors, dadami ang kita at pondo, at mailalagay ang mga pondong ito sa mga adbokasiyang ating pinaniniwalaan na makakaangat sa antas ng kabuhayan ng atin pong mga mamamayan,” Mayor Joy ended.

The 16th ALCUCOA National Conference with the theme “The Future of Quality Assurance in Philippine Higher Education” was a two-day event held from October 2 to 3, 2023 that gathered more than 48 local colleges and universities in the country to discuss the critical role of quality assurance in ensuring that higher education institutions (HEIs) provide students with high-quality education that meets the needs of the industry and of the society. QCU also received its Level II Certificates of Accreditation during the event, which was attended by key officials of the University led by Mayor Joy and Dr. Atienza.
