USAID Deputy Administrator Paloma Adams-Allen Visits QCU
Quezon City University (QCU) had the privilege of welcoming Ms. Paloma Adams-Allen, the Deputy Administrator for Management and Resources of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), on March 21, 2024, at the Digital Library, New Academic Building, QCU San Bartolome Campus.
The event, facilitated by USAID Philippines and the Education Development Center (EDC), highlighted the role of EDC, the QC Government, QC Youth Development Alliance (YDA), and QCU in spearheading projects aimed at supporting out-of-school youth (OSY) in the city.
Joined by representatives from the Quezon City Government, led by Councilor Julienne Alyson Rae Medalla, and the QC Youth Development Office, the session focused on introducing Adams-Allen to the collaborative efforts to empower OSY in Quezon City. The discussion emphasized providing innovative OSY and related stakeholders with essential skills for success.
Gratitude was extended to USAID for their support and partnership, alongside the dedication of local government leaders and organizations in making a tangible impact on the lives of youth, fostering a brighter future for Quezon City and beyond.
The session included insightful discussions between USAID officials and former OSYs who have successfully transitioned to education, entrepreneurship, and employment tracks. Notable attendees included Ed Meier, Associate Director for National Security, OMB/White House; Ryan Washburn, Mission Director, USAID Philippines and Mongolia; Rob Barton, Director Office of East Asia and Pacific Affairs; and Mir Tillah, Senior Education Advisor, USAID Philippines and Site Officer.
Also present were Dr. Eddilyn Dividina, Head of the QC Youth Development Office, and Mr. Angelito Bautista Jr., Director of the QCU Research Management Office.
Adams-Allen’s visit to QCU is part of a five-day official trip to the Philippines to engage with local and national government officials, civil society leaders, and the private sector to reinforce the U.S. government’s commitments to the people of the Philippines.
QCU is a recipient of the USAID-EDC SEEDS Grant under its Opportunity 2.0 Program for its BLeSDS for the OSY Executive Course. The University recently received its second grant under the O2 GAIN Grant for the expansion of the program.
