Quezon City University recently celebrated its 30th anniversary with a week-long event at the San Bartolome campus, from March 1 to 8. The celebration, themed “Education for Empowerment: Transforming Communities for Sustainable Futures,” brought together university officials, faculty members, employees, and students for a series of activities that showcased the dynamic spirit of the QCU community.

The celebration kicked off with a Holy Mass on March 1 at the QCU Techvoc Gym, officiated by Rev. Fr. Daniel Allan Dizon Samonte. This was followed by a parade and review in honor of the guest of honor, Hon. Ma. Josefina “Joy” Belmonte, City Mayor and Chair of the QCU Board of Regents. Mayor Joy, along with other local officials and guests from the public and private sectors, also led the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the New Academic Building and the QCU Urban Farming Innovation and Learning Center.

The first day of the week-long celebration also included a Fellowship Assembly among university employees, followed by University Academic Contests organized by the Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Education, and Accounting Department.

On March 4, the second day of the University Week, an energetic University Parade led by the athletes of the four colleges took place. Renowned Philippine Basketball Association coach Yeng Guiao of Rain or Shine served as the guest of honor during the opening of the intramurals at the QCU Open Grounds. Student-athletes competed in basketball, volleyball, badminton, sepak takraw, and table tennis games to promote good health and well-being.

The university continued its lively celebration with a wide range of programs, exhibitions, and showcases. Dr. Atienza officially opened the Academic Exhibits and the QCU Fair Bazaar, emphasizing her strong support for entrepreneurship and promoting excellence through competitive academic contests. She also acknowledged the beauty of the academic exhibits, which highlighted QCU’s innovative perspective, creativity, and commitment to social causes and social impact through innovation.

The third day of the University Week celebration featured various academic events such as the College of Education’s Essay Writing Contest, Extemporaneous Speech Competition, and STS Short Film Festival, the College of Engineering’s Robot Wars, and the College of Computer Studies’ Logo Making Contest. These events showcased the technical and imaginative skills of QCians. The fourth day of the celebration featured the SANGHAYA Student Organizations’ Awards, which had the theme “Pioneering Pathways in Student Leadership.” This event honored exceptional student organizations, student leaders, and advisors. Additionally, the College of Business Administration and Accountancy held a concert at the Techvoc Gym. The College of Engineering was recognized as the overall champion of the intramurals.

Meanwhile, the Center for Gender and Development organized a GAD exhibit entitled “Gender Milestones: Women in Society (Past and Present) and Notable Gender and Development Programs (Local and Nationwide),” which aimed at promoting gender equality and government programs that reduce inequalities.

The week-long celebration culminated in an International Training on High-Impact University Ranking through the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the QCU Auditorium.
