QCU, Safewater Technologies Inc. Partner to Advance Sustainable Engineering and Community Innovation
Quezon City University (QCU) formalized a partnership with Safewater Technologies Inc. (Restore Solutions PH) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on October 16, 2026, at the QCU Main Campus, strengthening collaboration in circular economy practices, sustainable engineering, and community-responsive innovation.
The agreement was signed by QCU President Dr. Theresita V. Atienza and Safewater Technologies Inc. President Mr. Eric Chao. Joining the partner delegation were Mr. Miguel Yorro, Vice President for Business Development, Sustainability, and Production Innovation; Ms. Analyn Ampo; and Mr. Darell Sarcilla, Marketing Staff and a QCU alumnus.
In her welcome message, Dr. Atienza underscored the importance of institutional partnerships in translating sustainability commitments into practical initiatives that connect academic research, innovation, and community engagement. She emphasized the University’s role in developing solutions to environmental challenges while addressing the needs of local communities.
Mr. Chao reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainable innovation, particularly through the conversion of flexible plastic waste into useful materials. He also expressed the company’s interest in working with QCU to explore environmentally responsible solutions that create value for communities.
A key area of collaboration is the QCU IErgonomic Carts Project, led by the College of Engineering, which provides ergonomically designed carts for selected mobile vendors in Quezon City. Under the partnership, Safewater Technologies Inc. will provide recycled plastic boards for potential use as alternatives to conventional plywood. The College of Engineering will conduct research and testing to assess the materials’ suitability and durability for the project.
Facilitated by the Research, Extension, Planning, and Linkages–Extension Management Office (REPL-EMO), the agreement also provides opportunities for joint initiatives in research, innovation, environmental sustainability, and community extension.
Through this partnership, QCU continues to strengthen the link between research, sustainable engineering, and community engagement, pursuing practical innovations that respond to environmental concerns and support local livelihoods.
