QCU Participates in Zero Waste Coordination Meeting with UNDP and QC Government
Quezon City University (QCU) joined the Zero Waste Project Coordination Meeting on April 11, 2025, at the 4th Floor Conference Room of the Quezon City (QC) Market Development and Administration Department (MDAD), Civic Center Building A.
The meeting was led by MDAD who leads the Project Zero Waste Program of Quezon City, a flagship solid waste solution program implemented in line with the 14-Point Agenda of Mayor Joy Belmonte for a green and sustainable Quezon City.
Ms. Erika Erro, EnP, UNDP’s LGU and Stakeholder Engagement Officer, opened the meeting by providing an overview of the UNDP Zero Waste Program and its support to QC’s sustainable market initiatives. She emphasized the role of vendor education, food waste reduction, and behavior change in fostering a circular economy.
Mr. Anton Pabustan, consultant of MDAD, presented the city’s upcoming activities under the Project Zero Waste, which include training food vendors and stall owners in Kamuning and Capitol State markets. These sessions aim to integrate waste segregation, business development, and food sustainability.
QCU was represented by Mr. Angelito P. Bautista Jr., Director, Research, Extension, Planning, and Linkages – Research Management Office (REPL-RMO) who shared QCU’s commitment to environmental and social sustainability and expressed support for the initiative through potential research collaboration, content development, and faculty engagement.
The meeting is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships among the academe, local government, and international organizations in addressing urban waste challenges
Other city departments represented during the meeting were the Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department (CCESD), Joy of Urban Farming (JUF), Public Employment Service Office (PESO), and Small Business and Cooperatives Development Promotions Office (SBCDPO).
