Quezon City University (QCU) participated in the National Capital Region (NCR) Innovation and Technology Transfer Summit 2025 held on June 23–24, 2025, at the Green Sun Hotel, Makati City. Organized by the Department of Science and Technology – NCR (DOST-NCR), the summit carried the theme “TECHGROW: Bridging Government, Industry, and Academe to Accelerate Innovation.”

The QCU delegation was led by Dr. Theresita V. Atienza, University President, with Dr. Ryan Arago, Dean of the College of Engineering, Mr. Angelito Bautista Jr., Director of the Research Management Office, representatives from the QCU Center for Urban Agriculture and Innovation (CUAI), Engr. Crystalline Cortez of the College of Engineering, and Mr. Joe Andrew Esposo from the QCU Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO).

During the summit, QCU was formally recognized as a founding member of the newly formed Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) Consortium in NCR, known as the NCR Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources (AANR) Consortium. QCU was the only Local University among the seven pioneering higher education institutions (HEIs) included in the consortium. University President Dr. Theresita V. Atienza signed the ceremonial Letter of Intent on behalf of QCU, with REPL-RMO Director Mr. Angelito Bautista Jr. as witness.

The summit featured keynote talks and presentations from top DOST officials including Secretary Dr. Renato Solidum Jr., who emphasized innovation as a system-wide process and called for a whole-of-society approach to development. DOST also introduced TECHGROW and PROPEL, two major programs supporting technology transfer, intellectual property (IP) development, and commercialization for researchers and startups.

Participants also visited the TECHGROW Exhibit, which featured innovative technologies from SUCs, startups, and industry partners. QCU engaged in networking with fellow innovation stakeholders to explore collaboration and funding opportunities.

A key activity was the Fireside Chat on Technology Incubation, where speakers from UP SikLab and UPSCALE innovation hub shared insights on transforming research into market-ready technologies. The discussion emphasized the importance of early-stage mentorship, IP protection, and the need to guide researchers toward sustainable commercialization pathways.

In addition to networking with innovation stakeholders and exploring exhibits from various SUCs, startups, and private sector groups. The summit also introduced a Reverse Pitching session where LGUs and private sector leaders presented real-world problems and invited HEIs to co-develop innovative solutions.
