SDG 4 9

The Quezon City University – Innovation and Technology Support Office (QCU-ITSO) successfully conducted its first face-to-face Foundation Course on Intellectual Property for QCU students on April 12, 2024, at Room 307, Audio-Visual Room, New Academic Building, QCU San Bartolome Campus. Thirty-eight Industrial Engineering students attended the seminar.

Mr. Angelito P. Bautista Jr., Director of the Research Management Office, led the seminar, providing comprehensive information on the IP System. He discussed various topics such as patents, utility models, industrial design, copyrights, and trademarks.

“By knowing the fundamentals of intellectual property rights, you are being equipped to navigate the complexities of innovation and protect your creative and innovative output,” Mr. Bautista told the participants.

Dr. Ryan F. Arago, Dean of the College of Engineering, expressed his gratitude to QCU-ITSO for organizing the seminar. He emphasized its significance in the university’s commitment to patenting student-generated technologies and products from their feasibility projects.

“This not only enhances the academic profile of students but also fosters a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within the university,” Dr. Arago emphasized.

Ms. Maria Aura C. Impang, QCU-ITSO General Manager, praised the seminar as a crucial milestone in QCU’s efforts to deepen students’ understanding and appreciation of intellectual property rights among students.

“As the university aims to enhance its IP footprint, our students must grasp the significance of IP rights in innovation and creativity,” she remarked.

As an accredited Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), QCU-ITSO is planning to conduct four additional batches of the seminar on April 17, 19, and 22, 2024. These efforts align with the university’s commitment to raising awareness about intellectual property rights among QCians and coincide with the celebration of National Intellectual Property Month (NIPM) in April 2024.
