QCU Empowers Communities with ‘Perma-Talk’: A Bold Step Toward Urban Food Sovereignty
In a significant step toward urban resilience, Quezon City University (QCU) hosted the Perma-Talk Activity on March 9, 2026. The event, organized by the Center for Urban Agriculture and Innovation, served as a collaborative hub for university administrators, faculty, NSTP students, and local community urban farmers to explore the future of eco-friendly farming.
The primary goal of the activity was to bridge the gap between academic awareness and the practical application of sustainable farming. Mr. Sixto A. Bereber, a featured expert, led the discussion by breaking down the core principles of permaculture. He highlighted actionable strategies that local communities can implement to bolster food security and reduce environmental impact.
The session went beyond a traditional lecture through an interactive open forum. Community farmers took center stage to share their “on-the-ground” experiences, creating a unique peer-to-peer learning environment where students and practitioners could exchange technical questions and success stories.
The program was highlighted by an inspirational message from Dr. Theresita V. Atienza, QCU President. Dr. Atienza underscored the university’s commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship.
“Sustainable agriculture and active community involvement are the twin pillars of building resilient urban food systems,” Dr. Atienza remarked, urging participants to see urban farming not just as a hobby, but as a vital necessity for the city’s future.
