QC’s Climate Action Plan Gains Momentum—QCU Embraces this Roadmap

SDG 6 11

Quezon City is making bold strides toward a greener, more resilient future with its Enhanced Local Climate Change Action Plan (LCCAP) 2021–2050. Adopted via City Council resolution as the official guiding framework for climate policy, the LCCAP commits the city to a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030—with a long-term vision of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Quezon City University (QCU)—alongside all city departments—has formally adopted the LCCAP, aligning its operations, educational programs, and campus initiatives with the city’s climate goals. This alignment underscores QCU’s role as a collaborative partner in city-wide climate action, not just through its academic mandate, but also through its everyday policies and programs.

In addition to mitigation targets, the LCCAP emphasizes climate adaptation and environmental resilience. It supports inclusive projects, such as accessible climate education tools for children of varying abilities, and efforts to strengthen local ecosystems and improve food security. Quezon City’s Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department continues to lead the way, developing biodiversity strategies, promoting urban farming, and implementing waste-to-resource programs, such as Trash to Cashback.

For its part, QCU contributes through climate-focused research and educational initiatives that reinforce both mitigation and adaptation strategies. By embedding sustainability across its curricula and campus practices, QCU shines as an institutional leader supporting both the spirit and substance of the LCCAP.
