East West Center Alumni Association Philippines Honors Dr. Atienza for Support of Boera Women’s Gardening Project

The East West Center Alumni Association Philippines (EWC AAP) awarded Dr. Theresita V. Atienza for her outstanding support and warm welcome during the visit of the EWC Ohana to the Quezon City University (QCU) Center for Urban Agriculture and Innovation.

The visit was in support of the Boera Women’s Ministry Entrepreneurial Community Gardening Pilot Project, led by Doreka Dai, a 2013 EWC Pacific Islands Women in Leadership Program alumna and 2022 EWC Awardee of the 21st Century Outstanding Service Award.

Dr. Atienza’s leadership and inspiring orientation during the visit helped strengthen the project’s mission of empowering rural women through community gardening and sustainable entrepreneurship. The Boera Women’s Ministry Project aims to provide women in rural areas with skills and resources to succeed in agriculture and improve their economic independence.

As president of Quezon City University, Dr. Atienza also led a tour of the QCU Center for Urban Agriculture and Innovation, highlighting the importance of education and innovation in solving community challenges. Her efforts reflect the values of the East West Center, which fosters global collaboration for sustainable development.
