QCU Researchers Strengthen Quantitative Research Skills Through IBM SPSS Training
Quezon City University (QCU) researchers strengthened their quantitative research and data analysis competencies through a two-day IBM SPSS Training for Researchers conducted by the Strategic Research and Development Center, Inc. (STRAND-Asia) on July 2–3, 2026 via Zoom.
Facilitated by Mr. Rene Argenal, the training focused on developing participants’ practical skills in using IBM SPSS Statistics for data preparation, management, statistical analysis, visualization, and interpretation.
The sessions covered essential research processes, including variable definition and coding, dataset organization, levels of measurement, frequency distributions, descriptive statistics, and data visualization. Participants also explored SPSS features for managing multiple datasets, analyzing multiple-response data, reviewing and exporting statistical outputs, and using syntax to automate and reproduce analytical procedures.
The second day focused on inferential statistics and hypothesis testing, covering cross-tabulation and Chi-Square tests, t-tests, ANOVA, correlation, and linear regression. Discussions also emphasized the interpretation of statistical outputs and the appropriate application of statistical techniques in examining differences, relationships, and predictive patterns among variables.
Through guided discussions and practical exercises, the training provided researchers with hands-on experience in applying statistical methods to quantitative research data. The activity further emphasized the importance of selecting appropriate analytical procedures and accurately interpreting statistical results to produce reliable, systematic, and evidence-based research outputs.
The training contributes to QCU’s continuing efforts to strengthen research capacity and equip its researchers with practical tools for generating meaningful evidence to support academic inquiry, institutional development, and community-responsive research.
