QCU and HCMUTE Strengthen Ties for Collaboration in Research, Exchange, and Innovation

SDG 4 9 17

Quezon City University (QCU) and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE) explored stronger academic and research collaboration during an online coordination meeting held last July 16, 2025.

This partnership builds on earlier engagement during the Asian Graduate Studies Summit (A-GraSS) 2025, organized by the Asia Pacific Consortium of Researchers and Educators (APCORE) and co-hosted by QCU, where HCMUTE served as the main host in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.

The meeting was attended by QCU representatives led by Mr. Angelito Bautista Jr., Director of the Research Management Office, together with Dr. Ryan Arago, Dean of the College of Engineering, and selected faculty members. HCMUTE was represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Huy Tuan, Head of the Testing & Quality Assurance Office and faculty member of the Department of Machinery Manufacturing Technology, Dr. Thoi Nguyen of the Office of International Affairs, and other faculty members.

The dialogue opened several promising avenues for cooperation between the two institutions, including:

  • Joint Technical Conferences – Co-organization of academic and professional conferences on technology and education.
  • Collaborative Research – Development of joint proposals for funded research projects addressing pressing issues in science, engineering, innovation, and education.
  • Faculty Exchange and Training – QCU expressed its interest in sending faculty to HCMUTE for capacity-building programs. QCU President Dr. Theresita Atienza also suggested that QCU first host a delegation from HCMUTE in the Philippines next year, to which a formal invitation will be prepared.
  • Student Mobility – Opportunities were explored for a 9-week term-based exchange program with course credit recognition. Both parties also discussed possibilities for international internships, teaching practicums, and specialized short courses in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), and international thesis research at HCMUTE laboratories.
  • Journal Partnership – Both institutions agreed to cross-recommend contributors to support academic publication efforts. QCU also invited HCMUTE to collaborate through its three journals: The STAR: Journal of Science, Engineering, and Information Technology, The Gavel: Journal of Business and Social Sciences, and The Lamp: Journal of Education. Additionally, an invitation will be extended to HCMUTE faculty to join the Editorial Board and Reviewer Pool of the QCU Journals.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of mutual commitment to pursue meaningful

collaborations that enhance internationalization, strengthen academic capacities, and expand opportunities for students and faculty alike.

QCU expressed its appreciation for the warm hospitality and openness of HCMUTE, highlighting the meeting as a step forward in building stronger ties between the two institutions toward innovation and sustainable education.
