QCU Joins 5-Day Patent Search and Drafting Training at ADMU
Representatives from Quezon City University (QCU) joined a five-day training entitled “Foundation Course: Introduction to Patent Searching and Patent Drafting” from June 30 to July 2-4, 2025, at Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU).
The event was organized by the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). It aimed to teach participants how to search for existing patents and how to write simple patent documents. The training also explained the importance of protecting inventions and ideas through intellectual property (IP).
QCU was represented by Ms. Maria Aura C. Impang, General Manager of the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO), and Mr. Joe Andrew Esposa, Technical Support Staff, Ms. Crystalynne Cortez and Mr. Luisito Soriano, ITSO Coordinators.
Throughout the week, participants attended lectures, case studies, and hands-on workshops. They learned how to search for existing patents, check for similar inventions (prior art), and write basic patent claims. The training also discussed the importance of protecting creative works and how IP can support innovation and university growth.
On the last day of the training, Ms. Impang and her team presented their group project called “PICAPOD”, an energy-boosting product using fast oral absorption. The team also took part in a negotiation simulation, where they practiced how to license or protect inventions for future use or commercial purposes.
The training helped QCU strengthen its efforts in research, innovation, and protecting the creative work of students and faculty.
