QCU Dominates VEX U Robotics National Championship, Qualifies for World Stage
Quezon City University (QCU) achieved a historic milestone following its exceptional performance at the VEX U Robotics Competition National Championship, held on January 29–30, 2026, where QCU secured victories in all major competition categories and earned international recognition in the VEX World Skills Standings.
Throughout the two-day national championship, the QCU Robotics Team demonstrated outstanding proficiency in engineering design, programming, and competitive strategy. Representing the University were two teams—Team Alpha and Team Beta—whose collective performance underscored the depth, discipline, and technical excellence of QCU’s robotics program.
During the qualification rounds on the first day of competition, Team Alpha, composed of Marc Laurence S. Pariñas, Alec Gabriel B. Amante, Alyanna C. Bunag, Neriel D. Madriaga, Ericka L. Cañon, John Roi A. Magnaye, John Daniel C. Cimanes, and Prince L. Docot, delivered a flawless performance, completing the matches with an undefeated 8–0 record. Team Beta, represented by Nicolas G. Ramos II, Katrice P. Parmisano, Fernando V. Padasas Jr., Jayson D. Dela Cruz, Marc S. Concepcion, and James R. Fontanilla, followed closely with a strong 6–2 record. These results placed both teams at the top of the rankings and advanced them to the semifinals, marking a decisive start for QCU.
On the second day of competition, the teams further distinguished themselves during the Robot Skills Challenge, an event that highlights advanced programming, autonomous control, and precision engineering. Team Alpha recorded an impressive 157 points, securing first place in the challenge, while Team Beta achieved 104 points, earning second place and reinforcing QCU’s dominance in technical performance.
The semifinal rounds became a showcase of QCU’s competitive strength, as Team Alpha prevailed over Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, while Team Beta secured a victory against Colegio de Muntinlupa. These victories set the stage for a historic all-QCU championship final—an uncommon and notable occurrence at the national level.
The championship concluded with an intense best-of-three final series, after which Team Alpha emerged as Tournament Champion. Team Beta concluded the competition as Tournament Runner-Up and was honored with the Best Design Award, recognizing the team’s innovative approach and excellence in robot design.
By the conclusion of the championship, QCU had achieved a complete sweep of the major awards, including the Tournament Championship, Robot Skills Challenge Championship, Excellence Award, and Best Design Award. As a result of this outstanding performance, QCU is now ranked 17th out of 160 teams worldwide in the VEX World Skills Standings, marking a significant achievement for the University and Philippine robotics.
With this accomplishment, QCU has officially qualified to represent the Philippines at the 2026 VEX Robotics World Championship, scheduled to take place in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, from April 21 to 30, 2026. Participation in the world championship reflects QCU’s growing presence on the global stage of robotics and technological innovation.
This milestone achievement affirms QCU’s sustained commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and the development of globally competitive graduates in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The success of the QCU Robotics Team stands as a testament to the dedication of its students, the mentorship of its faculty, and the institution’s continued support for excellence in emerging technologies.
