QCU Deploys Smart Engineering Solutions in Barangay Novaliches Proper
Quezon City University (QCU) reaffirmed its commitment to community centered innovation through the successful College of Engineering Extension Project Turn-over Ceremony held on July 24, 2026. The event marked the official handover of two technology driven projects to Barangay Novaliches Proper, demonstrating how research and extension initiatives can address real world community needs.
The College of Engineering formally turned over VerdeCool IoT-Based Solar-Powered Evaporative Cooler for Smart Growth Optimization of Brassica juncea (Mustard Greens) and Coriandrum sativum (Cilantro) and NovaLink A LoRa Enabled Solar Powered Multi Disaster Acoustic Warning System for Barangay Novaliches Proper.
Designed and developed through the University’s research and extension efforts, the projects aim to support sustainable urban agriculture and strengthen disaster preparedness by providing practical, technology-based solutions tailored to the needs of the local community.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. Theresita V. Atienza, University President; Dr. Ryan F. Arago, Dean of the College of Engineering; Engr. Leonard T. Catchillar, Program Chairperson of the Electronics Engineering Department; Mr. Lenard F. Bien, Acting Director of the Extension Management Office; faculty members, Electronics Engineering students, and officers of the IECEP QCU Student Chapter. Representing Barangay Novaliches Proper were Hon. Asuncion M. Visaya, Punong Barangay, and members of the Barangay Council.
In her message, Dr. Atienza underscored the University’s mission of translating research into meaningful community impact. She emphasized that Quezon City University’s extension initiatives are designed to go beyond knowledge generation by delivering sustainable, innovative, and technology-driven solutions that respond to the evolving needs of local communities.
Hon. Asuncion M. Visaya expressed her gratitude to the University and the College of Engineering for the partnership and for entrusting Barangay Novaliches Proper with the two innovations. She shared that the technologies will help enhance the barangay’s agricultural productivity, disaster resilience, and overall community welfare.
The turnover reflects Quezon City University’s continuing commitment to bridging academic expertise and community development. By transforming research into practical innovations, the University empowers communities with sustainable solutions that create lasting social impact and reinforce the role of engineering in nation-building.
