QCU Delegates Join ALCU National Conference 2025 to Champion Sustainable Local Education
Quezon City University (QCU) participated in the 2025 National Conference of the Association of Local Colleges and Universities (ALCU) held on October 27–28, 2025, at The Heritage Hotel Manila, Pasay City, with the theme “From Local to Global: Harnessing the Power of Local Colleges for Sustainable Development.”
The two-day national gathering brought together presidents, deans, and administrators from LCUs across the country to discuss innovations in governance, higher education policy, and local development.
Representing QCU in the conference were Dr. Ryan F. Arago, Dean of the College of Engineering and OIC Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Isagani Ano, Dean of the College of Computer Studies; Dr. Gerardo Bautista, Dean of the College of Accountancy; Dr. Glenda Rebucas, Dean of the College of Business; Dr. Randel Estacio, Dean of the College of Education; Ms. Geraldine Adlawon, Director for Quality Assurance, Curriculum, and Instructional Materials; Ms. Gregthel Ledesma, Director for Finance; and Mr. Angelito Bautista Jr., Director of the Research Management Office.
Throughout the conference, delegates engaged in plenary discussions on topics including digital transformation, public-private partnerships, complementarity in higher education, policy innovations, and the role of LCUs in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Speakers included representatives from CHED, TESDA, UniFAST, DICT, and national legislators.
A major highlight of the event was the plenary talk delivered by Hon. Ma. Josefina “Joy” Belmonte, Mayor of Quezon City, titled “Gender, Youth, and Marginalized Sector Engagement in Local Governance.” Mayor Belmonte shared her experiences as an educator and leader, underscoring the importance of empowering citizens and strengthening community participation as foundations of good governance.
“When we empower our citizens, we give them the tools to lift themselves up. From there, development becomes more sustainable because it reflects the dignity and aspirations of all,” Mayor Belmonte said, adding, “Gusto kong makilala ang Quezon City bilang best in good governance—walang maiiwan. Dapat malakas ang mamamayan.”
She also introduced the city’s collaborative programs with QCU, including the Executive Course for Barangay Leaders, and highlighted the university’s Center for Urban Agriculture and Innovation (CUAI), which supports over 43,000 urban farmers in Quezon City.
The QCU delegation’s participation reflects the university’s continuing commitment to institutional excellence, good governance, and the localization of sustainable development goals in higher education. By engaging with fellow LCUs nationwide, QCU strengthens its role as a model city university—transforming education into a tool for empowerment, innovation, and inclusive growth.
