QCU Strengthens Global Engagement through Participation in UP System’s KAPIT-BISIG 2026
Quezon City University (QCU) reinforced its commitment to advancing internationalization through its participation in the KAPIT-BISIG 2026: United from Within to Beyond International Relations Officer Training Workshop held on July 13–14, 2026 at the SMX Convention Center Clark, Pampanga.
Organized by the University of the Philippines Office of International Linkages (UP OIL) System, the two-day training gathered approximately 250 participants from local universities and colleges, state universities and colleges (SUCs), private higher education institutions, and various University of the Philippines constituent universities. The workshop aimed to strengthen the capacities of International Relations Officers (IROs) and institutional representatives in developing strategic and sustainable internationalization initiatives.
Representing QCU was Mr. Angelito P. Bautista Jr., Director of the Research Management Office, who participated in the Foundational Internationalization Training Program. The training emphasized that internationalization extends beyond student mobility and institutional rankings, positioning it as a strategic function that enhances quality education, research collaboration, intercultural learning, institutional development, and public service.
Among the highlights of the workshop was the Fireside Chat on Global Trends in Internationalization and Implications to the Philippine Higher Education Landscape, where international education experts shared emerging practices and opportunities for higher education institutions to strengthen global engagement through research collaboration, curriculum innovation, digital learning, sustainability, and inclusive partnerships.
Through a series of interactive workshops, participants developed competencies in internationalization planning, intercultural communication, partnership management, and strategic collaboration. They also completed practical exercises on institutional mapping, stakeholder engagement, communication planning, and the formulation of action plans to support their respective universities’ internationalization goals.
During the institutional mapping activity, QCU identified its growing strengths in international partnerships and research collaborations, supported by its active participation in international conferences, seminars, training programs, and collaborative research initiatives. The exercise also highlighted opportunities to further strengthen student mobility, faculty exchange, and international quality assurance as the University continues to expand its global footprint.
The workshop likewise introduced participants to the 5D Framework for Sustainable International Partnerships—Define, Discover, Design, Deliver, and Demonstrate—a strategic model that guides higher education institutions in building partnerships that generate measurable outcomes such as joint research, faculty and student exchanges, curriculum development, external funding opportunities, and community impact.
The training concluded with the preparation of a one-year institutional implementation plan focusing on stakeholder engagement, strategic partnerships, communication, benchmarking, monitoring, and sustainability.
