QCU and Barangay Novaliches Proper Strengthen Disaster Preparedness with Solar-Powered Siren Project

The Solar-Powered Siren Project took center stage during a follow-up coordination meeting held on September 3, 2025, between Quezon City University (QCU) and officials of Barangay Novaliches Proper. This forward-thinking initiative aims to enhance the barangay’s disaster preparedness and emergency response system through the use of sustainable, solar-powered technology.

During the meeting, the QCU team presented detailed project plans, including a working prototype, technical schematics, an implementation roadmap, and budgetary requirements. The presentation highlighted how innovative engineering solutions can be applied to real-world community challenges.

This collaboration underscores QCU’s strong commitment to community extension and service learning—bridging academic expertise with local development. It exemplifies how faculty and students are working hand-in-hand with communities to create meaningful and lasting impact.

Present at the meeting were Barangay Captain Hon. Asuncion Visaya, along with Barangay Kagawads Hon. Enrique Añonuevo and Hon. Maria Cecilia Ramos. Representing QCU were Dr. Nina C. Apusaga and Engr. Crystalinne D. Cortez from the College of Engineering, accompanied by Electronics Engineering students John Lawrence Bautista, Joshua Avenido, Ron-Ron Dareen Casem, Rafael Thomas Tuason, and Froiland Gobilab. They were joined by Mr. Lenard F. Bien, Acting Director of the Extension Management Office, and Ms. Maria Lourdes Parinas.

Through initiatives like the Solar-Powered Siren Project, QCU continues to promote civic responsibility and community resilience—empowering both students and faculty to be agents of positive change in society.
