QCU Joins 3rd ALCUCOA National Research Conference in Quezon City
Quezon City University (QCU) participated in the 3rd ALCUCOA National Research Conference held on May 30–31, 2025, at The Hub, Diliman College, Quezon City. The event gathered over 200 participants from 42 Local Colleges and Universities (LCUs) across the country.
The conference was organized by the ALCUCOA Research Council (ARC) with the theme “Advancing Research Excellence: Local Solutions for Global Sustainability.” The event opened with remarks from ARC Executive Director Dr. Rebecca Tolentino, who emphasized the role of research in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ALCUCOA President Dr. Raymundo Arcega led the direction-setting session and called on institutions to conduct relevant and community-based research.
The keynote address on Day 1 was delivered by Dr. Hernando Siy Salapare III, a DOST Balik Scientist. He presented the objectives of the Balik Scientist Program and its impact on research capacity-building in local institutions. He also discussed institutional challenges in implementing long-term research programs and recommended exploring alternative funding models and partnerships.
On Day 2, Dr. Bernardo Sepeda, Executive Director of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), discussed the role of LCUs in research for community development. He encouraged participation in NRCP’s RDLead Program and called for more collaborative and transdisciplinary research aligned with local government needs.
During the closing ceremony, Senator Nikki Coseteng delivered a message urging educators to pursue evidence-based and solutions-oriented research.
QCU was represented by Angelito Bautista Jr., Director of the Research Management Office, and Jayvee Matutino, Administrative Support Assistant. They also joined a data analysis workshop facilitated by Dr. Aileen Diansuy and Solid Business Machines Center Inc. (SBMCI) as well as a Publication Workshop for the ALCUCOA Research Journal. QCU also initiated discussions with representatives from various LCUs and community colleges regarding a joint research project on fiscal management challenges faced by LCUs.
QCU’s participation in the conference is part of its continuing efforts to strengthen research, expand partnerships, and support initiatives relevant to higher education and local governance.
