QCU Attends Global Sustainable Development Congress 2025
Quezon City University (QCU) participated in the Times Higher Education (THE) Global Sustainable Development Congress 2025, held from June 16 to 19, 2025, at the Istanbul Congress Center, Türkiye. The event brought together higher education institutions, researchers, and policymakers to discuss the role of universities in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
QCU was represented by Dr. Theresita V. Atienza, University President; Mr. Angelito Bautista Jr., Director of the Research Management Office; and Ms. Angela Arago, Sustainability Officer. The delegation attended plenary sessions, technical workshops, and institutional meetings.
QCU in THE Impact Rankings 2025
This year, QCU joined over 2,500 universities worldwide in the THE Impact Rankings 2025. The university expanded its SDG participation from five SDGs in 2024 to eleven in 2025. QCU recorded its highest scores in:
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
- SDG 1: No Poverty
- SDG 5: Gender Equality
- SDG 4: Quality Education
- SDG 13: Climate Action
QCU’s continued participation reflects its growing involvement in sustainability-focused research, education, and community engagement.
MoUs Signed with International Institutions
During the congress, QCU signed four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with:
- Gebze Technical University (GTU), Türkiye
- Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKU), Türkiye
- Sakarya University of Applied Sciences (SUBÜ), Türkiye
- Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University (PSAU), Saudi Arabia
These agreements will support joint research projects, faculty and student exchange, and academic collaboration.
QCU also held exploratory talks with:
- Istanbul Technical University (ITU)
- Baku Engineering University, Azerbaijan
- University of South Africa (UNISA)
- King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia
Learning and Collaboration
QCU delegates attended sessions on topics such as SDG integration in education, sustainability competencies, AI and inequality, and youth climate leadership. The university also participated in the Data Masterclass led by THE experts, which focused on improving institutional strategies and evidence submissions for future rankings.
QCU’s participation in THE Impact Rankings and the GSDC 2025 highlights its ongoing efforts to align academic programs, research, and policies with the global sustainability agenda. With the strong support of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), specifically the CHED-National Capital Region Office, new international partnerships, and increased SDG engagement, QCU continues to strengthen its role in higher education for sustainable development.
